About US

Herts Inclusive Theatre (HIT) use the arts and wellbeing practices to build confidence, develop skills and give participants and their families memorable, enjoyable life experiences where everyone is encouraged, valued, supported and has their part to play.

Who We Are

Led by experienced practitioners, our workshops are open to all and are especially welcoming to those with special needs. We provide a comprehensive programme of activities including theatre workshops for children and young people, drama groups for adults with learning disabilities, family arts activities, corporate inclusion training, and bespoke commissioned projects.  Projects are as varied as delivering interactive story telling sessions for preschool children, supporting young people’s mental health, and working with people experiencing domestic abuse.

Our Aim

Through our activities we break down barriers about disability, encouraging participants to work together on an equal level and without prejudice. HIT offers participants the opportunity to explore the broadest spectrum of the arts using tools to encourage wider participation in learning, community work, and future employment.

Our Values

Inclusive

An organisation that is free from judgement, supportive and accessible, a place where we are considerate to everyone’s needs.

Creative

An organisation that places creativity at its heart, letting everyone express themselves, and encouraging imaginations to be free.

Friendly

An organisation that is welcoming! Here at HIT friendships can be fostered and a real sense of community is created.

Caring

An organisation that listens and is responsive to what we hear, valuing everyone’s contribution. We make sure everyone's needs and happiness is heard.

Theatre For Everyone

Our inclusive ethos means we are open to everybody! We do not audition and welcome anyone who wishes to partake. We strongly believe that theatre should be accessible to everyone and as such are extremely proud to welcome those who are often excluded from mainstream opportunities.

HIT provides a range of activities and workshops during the holidays which previously have included skills workshops, yoga and well being workshops and story telling. You may have seen us at various events around Hertfordshire doing arts & crafts sessions and telling stories. We have also hosted events and fundraisers such as our Easter, Halloween and Christmas Family Fun Days.

Did You Know?

Herts Inclusive Theatre is a registered charity and our extensive programme of work is only made possible by the kind support of grant-giving organisations, sponsors and donations from the public. Find out how you can help.

Our History

Herts Inclusive Theatre is the leading inclusive theatre company in Hertfordshire. Leading the way for 21 years, we are a multi and national award-winning charity.

From September 2021 to August 2022, over 200 people benefitted from HIT’s programme of after school & daytime workshops. The organisation has built on its foundations laid out by the current Director, along with the support of a small team of experienced charitable and arts professionals. In 2022, HIT was honoured to be awarded the National Winner in Diversity and Inclusion as part of the British Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards programme.
